What is SHARE Iowa?
Community Foundation for Western Iowa proud to power SHARE Iowa, an Iowa-local and regional philanthropic web platform to yield good in our communities. A big thank you to the Charles E. Lakin Foundation, Iowa West Foundation, Google and the Iowa Council of Foundations for their support of this strategic initiative of the Community Foundation.
SHARE Iowa offers a hyper-local response to directly benefit Iowans, through financial giving, in-kind donations and volunteerism within their unique communities and neighborhoods. Additionally, SHARE Iowa focuses on community-wide giving campaigns, like Giving Tuesday 712, to make a difference and maintain the connection that western Iowa has as an important part of the greater metropolitan area.
SHARE Iowa expands the Iowa footprint for increased engagement and nonprofit capacity-building, serving nine counties in western Iowa: Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby.
History of SHARE Iowa
SHARE Iowa was created by the Community Foundation for Western Iowa as a regional philanthropic initiative designed to strengthen communities across western Iowa. The platform was modeled after the successful SHARE Omaha digital giving system, expanding its “hyper-local” approach to connect Iowa residents with nearby nonprofits, volunteer opportunities, and community events.
Early development and launch support came from several key partners, including the Charles E. Lakin Foundation, Iowa West Foundation, Google, and the Iowa Council of Foundations. Their support helped establish SHARE Iowa as a centralized digital hub for giving and community engagement.
Mission and Purpose
SHARE Iowa was built to make it easier for residents to support local causes and for nonprofits to increase their visibility. The platform focuses on:
- Connecting residents with local nonprofits and causes
- Offering volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, and groups
- Supporting financial giving and in-kind donations
- Highlighting community events that strengthen local engagement
- Collaborating on regional campaigns such as Giving Tuesday
Service Area
SHARE Iowa serves nine western Iowa counties: Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby.
Today, the platform continues to grow as a digital resource for community involvement, nonprofit support, and local philanthropy across the region.
