Education is considered one of the greatest gifts you can give because it empowers people to achieve their goals and create a better future. You and/or your family may choose to establish a Scholarship Fund to meet your charitable goals. 

Your scholarship fund at the Community Foundation for Western Iowa creates impact for future generations of learners and leaders.  

Why Create a Scholarship Fund?

The Community Foundation for Western Iowa is your trusted partner in preserving and enhancing the quality of life in our region by supporting higher education for local students.

  • Honor or Memorialize a Loved One
    Establish a fund in memory of someone special or to celebrate a family, business, or area of interest.
  • Support Education Year-Round
    Donations can be made at any time and may qualify for the Endow Iowa Tax Credit and other benefits offered through the Community Foundation.

Flexible Giving Options

Scholarship funds can be created:

  • Today, or through your will or estate plan
  • With a wide variety of gifts, including:
    • Cash contributions
    • Financial investments
    • Bequests
    • Grain, livestock, stocks, and securities
    • Real estate and vehicles

The Community Foundation works closely with donors and their professional advisors to ensure the fund reflects your wishes and goals.

The following scholarships are awarded directly through other schools or organizations:

Partnering for Impact

We collaborate with the Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation (SWIEF) to meet the postsecondary education needs of local youth.
Additionally, we can help establish and administer scholarship funds for donors who wish to support students beyond southwest Iowa.

Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation (SWIEF)

The Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation is a nonprofit, 501C3 corporation founded in 1984 for the purpose of administering scholarships for contributing individuals, businesses, and organizations to the students of southwest Iowa. Their board of directors is comprised of members from the communities of southwest Iowa who serve without compensation. All contributions to the Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation are tax deductible.

SWIEF Scholarships are available to students from the following counties: Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby, and to eligible students who attend the following high schools: Boyer Valley, Exira-EHK, IKM-Manning, and Southwest Valley. 

The SWIEF Scholarship application is open annually between February 1 and March 15.
